The Fusion Reactor is a 4x2 Reactor unlocked at level eight. The Fusion Reactor is meant for later game ships, as they struggle to power most rooms only using the power generated from Small Reactors. The Fusion Reactor is by far the largest Reactor and the most efficient one relative to size (at level 8 or higher).
The Fusion Reactor will continue to provide power to the player's ship even when it's upgrading, EMP'd, or System Hacked. The amount of power the Fusion Reactor generates can also vary if it's damaged. Put simply, the power bars are treated as health bars, with one health bar representing one power.
Reactors in general also have some hidden mechanics. For example, the game forces the player to have one Reactor on their ship at all times. Along with this, if all Reactors are destroyed, the game will give the player a 0% Escape Rate, even if the player has a Bridge.
The Fusion Reactor is treated mostly the same way the Small Reactor is treated, with Landmines or Security Gates helping to protect it from enemy boarders. The Fusion Reactor doesn't need Armor at higher levels due to its massive health (power), but it's still good to Armor the Fusion Reactor to protect against Penetrator Missiles.
When To Use
The Fusion Reactor should be used if the player is having a hard time powering their ship. The amount of space the Fusion Reactor takes up may make this hard, so the player might have to rework their layout to get it to fit. At level 9 or 10, it usually becomes mandatory to use the Fusion Reactor due to the immense power upkeep of rooms.
The Fusion Reactor cannot be programmed with AI. The Fusion Reactor is categorized as a "Reactor" in AI coding.
The Fusion Reactor cannot be buffed by Crew.
